CONSTANCE JEWEL MENZIES
Candidate · REPUBLICAN
Why Thrive LA endorses CONSTANCE
Constance Jewel Menzies is a Republican running for California State Assembly District 57. Her ballot designation is In-Home Care Provider. She has no campaign website, no campaign committee, and no publicly stated policy positions. By every conventional measure, this is a nominal candidacy. We are endorsing her anyway, and the reason is simple: the incumbent, Sade Elhawary, is a DSA-endorsed ideologue whose record in Sacramento represents the worst of what activist politics produces. Elhawary has championed price controls on housing, pushed new taxes on businesses, and embraced a regulatory agenda that punishes the people who build, hire, and invest in Los Angeles. A vote for Menzies is a vote against that agenda. In a district where the registration gap makes a Republican victory effectively impossible, this endorsement is a statement of principle: DSA-endorsed legislators should face opposition on every ballot line, in every race, every cycle. Menzies has not articulated a policy platform, and we do not pretend otherwise. She carries the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly. She is the only alternative to an incumbent whose ideological commitments, from rent control expansion to anti-business taxation, actively harm the district's economic future. In a two-candidate general election, the choice is binary. A vote for Constance Jewel Menzies is a vote against the DSA's grip on District 57.
Key positions
- Rejecting DSA Ideology: The incumbent, Sade Elhawary, is DSA-endorsed and has advanced an activist agenda in Sacramento that includes rent control expansion, new business taxes, and anti-housing-provider legislation. Menzies is the only alternative on the ballot.
- Watchpoint: No Policy Platform: Menzies has not published any policy positions, does not operate a campaign website, and did not respond to voter guide surveys, including from the CRPA. Voters should be aware this is a protest vote, not a policy endorsement.
- Watchpoint: Campaign Infrastructure: Menzies has raised zero dollars, filed no campaign committee, and ran no visible outreach operation in the primary. This endorsement reflects opposition to the incumbent, not confidence in the challenger's capacity to win.
- Anti-Tax Signal: District 57 residents and small business owners deserve a representative who opposes new taxes and fees. Elhawary's record of supporting transfer taxes and business tax increases makes her a direct threat to the district's economic vitality. Any alternative is preferable.
- Accountability for Incumbents: Endorsing the opposition candidate in uncompetitive races sends a clear message: DSA-aligned incumbents will face organized resistance. Voter registration gaps do not entitle ideological extremists to uncontested power.
