PAUL SEO
Candidate · DEMOCRATIC
Why Thrive LA endorses PAUL
Paul Seo is the Mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes, a West Point graduate who served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, and a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice where he investigates and prosecutes political corruption, corporate fraud, and cold case murders. Before joining the AG's office, he spent seven years as a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County prosecuting serious and violent felonies. He holds an economics degree from West Point and a law degree from Loyola Law School. The 66th Assembly District needs a representative who takes public safety seriously, understands accountability from the inside, and will not treat the legislature as a platform for ideological experiments. Seo's opponent is DSA-endorsed, representing an activist agenda that has consistently pushed for defunding law enforcement, expanding government control over the housing market, and layering new taxes and mandates onto the small businesses that keep communities afloat. The contrast in this race could not be sharper. Seo is a prosecutor, a veteran, and a mayor who has governed a real city with real budgets. His opponent is backed by an organization whose policy prescriptions have made Los Angeles less safe, less affordable, and less functional. Seo has built the strongest law enforcement endorsement coalition in the race. He carries the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, the Long Beach Police Officers Association, the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, the California Narcotics Officers Association, the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, and the California Professional Firefighters. These are not ceremonial nods. They reflect the judgment of the people who do the work of keeping communities safe that Seo will fight for the tools, staffing, and resources they need. On homelessness, he calls for cutting red tape, demanding accountability from government programs, and getting people off the streets and into housing or mental health treatment, rejecting the bureaucratic drift that has defined Sacramento's approach to the crisis. As the son of small business owners, he frames economic policy around lowering the cost of living, reducing regulatory burdens, and partnering with developers to build more housing. Paul Seo is the proven, accountable leader the 66th District needs.
Key positions
- Deep Law Enforcement Support: Endorsed by LAPPL, ALADS, the California Association of Highway Patrolmen, the California Narcotics Officers Association, Long Beach POA, and the Association of Deputy District Attorneys. Seo calls for increasing funding for police, deputy sheriffs, prosecutors, and firefighters, giving them the tools to reduce crime.
- Prosecutor, Not an Activist: Seven years prosecuting serious and violent felonies as an LA County Deputy DA, now investigating political corruption and corporate fraud as a Deputy Attorney General. His career is built on holding people accountable, not on ideological crusades.
- Opponent is DSA-Endorsed: The DSA-endorsed candidate in this race represents the same activist agenda that has pushed to defund police, expand rent control, and impose new taxes on housing providers and businesses. Seo is the clear alternative for voters who want results over ideology.
- Pro-Housing, Cut Red Tape: Supports building more housing by reducing bureaucratic barriers and partnering with developers, while respecting high-risk fire zones. Frames housing as an affordability problem that government regulation has made worse.
- Accountability on Homelessness: Demands that government homelessness programs deliver measurable results. Calls for commonsense approaches that move people off the streets and into housing or mental health treatment, rejecting the status quo of spending without outcomes.
